Mission
To optimise post-ICU nutrition through collaborative research, education and implementation, improving recovery trajectories and long-term outcomes worldwide.
Why post-ICU nutrition matters
Despite declining ICU mortality, many survivors experience persistent physical, cognitive and psychological impairments (PICS). Nutrition is a critical, yet under-researched, determinant of recovery across the ward, rehabilitation and home settings.
What we do
- Define and prioritise key research questions and outcome measures
- Facilitate multicentre studies and methodological alignment
- Create practical tools for intake monitoring and dosing
- Provide education for clinicians, trainees and allied health
- Engage patients and families to co-design care pathways
Consensus definition post ICU patient
A post-ICU patient is any adult admitted to ICU for >48 hours, in a recovery phase lasting up to one year after first ICU discharge, regardless of readmissions or discharge destination.
How we work
GRIP operates as a not-for-profit academic consortium with a small Secretariat coordinating communications, events and member services, and domain leads steering the 10 research areas.
